Cecil, Man- The Heart of Our Brand

Back in the day, Cecil’s garage was the spot. Us neighborhood kids would roll up to fix our bikes—patching tubes, cleaning chrome, you name it. Cecil, man, had every tool we needed and the know-how to match. A master at bodywork and mixing paint, he’d let us watch him work his magic on cars and trucks, even paying us to wash ‘em. He taught me how to swap a car battery, replace a starter, alternator, or fanbelt—skills I still use today.

But Cecil was more than a mechanic. He took us fishing, showing us how to run a trotline, set yo-yos, and tightline for catfish. He taught us to hunt deer, squirrel, and rabbit, and how to grow a garden to feed our families. Most importantly, he drilled in respect—for our elders, our neighbors, and ourselves. “You can’t tear it up if it’s already broke,” he’d say, pushing us to fix things ourselves before calling in help.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, we’d throw “man” into every sentence. “Cecil, man, can you show me this?” or “Cecil, Man, thank you!” That’s where Cecil Mann comes from—a nod to the man who made me, my role model, and the spirit of those times.
